Ping Pong Tables
Never call it ping pong. That`s the rule in the world of table tennis players, and I don't blame them. Have you seen how fast they can make a ping pong ball fly Truth be told, table tennis has a long history before it was made and Olympic Sport in 1988, but I like the sound of ping pong. Ping. Pong.
Originally, table tennis was a game played after dinner by Victorian socialites of the late 19th C. They played with paddles made of paper and wood, and they called it 'whiff whaff' or ping pong for the sound that the racket made or the sound of the ball on the table, respectively.
Since then, we've improved the table tennis racket, the ball and, of course the ping pong table. (I just can't bring myself to say table tennis table.) Today, the standard table is 9ft by 5 ft, or if you'd prefer: 2.74m by 1.525 m. The height of the table varies, because you can by table tops and lay them on your existing table, but the regulation height is 30in or 76 cm.
Typically the ping pong table is constructed from Masonite or another hardwood, and then it is painted with a low friction coating. The table top is usually blue or green, which allows for maximum contrast with a white or orange ball. Oh, and don't forget the net.
Table tennis is very popular, and now everyone is trying to find their own ping pong table to buy. It`s a great family game as well as a perfect friendly competitive sport. So when you purchase your very own ping pong table, whether new or used, look for all your options, and see if you can find it on eBay! It might save you a few bucks.
